preparing for you piercing appointment
Whether it's your first piercing or you're adding to your collection, our goal is to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Before your appointment, we recommend eating a meal, staying well hydrated, and avoiding alcohol or recreational drugs for at least 24 hours prior to your piercing.
Arrive with a valid photo ID, and if you're under 18, be sure to bring your parent or legal guardian along with all required documentation.
During your appointment, your piercer will review your anatomy, discuss jewelry options, answer any questions you may have, and carefully mark the placement before beginning.
We encourage you to speak up throughout the process - we want you to feel confident and comfortable every step of the way.
Once your piercing is complete, we'll review aftercare instructions with you and make sure you leave with everything you need for a successful healing process.
Every piercing begins with an anatomy assessment to ensure the piercing you want is safe, suitable, and positioned for long-term success.
walk-ins & appointments
We proudly welcome walk-in piercings whenever possible. If our piercer is available, we'll be happy to get you in the same day.
Appointments are also available if you'd prefer to reserve a specific date and time. Unlike tattoo appointments, our piercing appointments do not require a deposit.
When booking, we'll simply gather a few details about the piercing you're interested in so we can ensure we have enough time set aside for your visit.
If you're planning a piercing for a minor or have questions about jewelry, anatomy, or healing, don't hesitate to reach out before your appointment. We're always happy to help.

age requirements
We believe every piercing should be performed safely, responsibly, and with informed consent. Age requirements vary depending on the piercing and are based on anatomy, healing considerations, and our studio policies.
While many ear piercings are available for minors with a parent or legal guardian present, some piercings require clients to be at least 18 years old due to increased healing complexity or their semi-permanent nature.
Every minor receiving a piercing must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and provide the required identification and documentation before any service can be performed.

Questions?
Because every situation is unique, we encourage you to contact us before booking if you have questions about age requirements, documentation, or whether a specific piercing is available for a minor.
healing expectations
Healing is a process - not an event.
Every person's body heals differently, and healing times can vary based on the piercing, your anatomy, lifestyle, and how closely aftercare instructions are followed.
Throughout the healing process, we're here to support you. If you have questions, concerns, or simply aren't sure whether something is healing normally, don't hesitate to reach out. We'd much rather answer a question early than have you worry unnecessarily.
As a courtesy to our clients, we offer a 30-day guarantee. If, within the first 30 days, your piercer determines that a piercing is migrating, rejecting, or should be removed due to healing concerns, or if your starter jewelry is accidentally lost, we'll replace the piercing or jewelry at no additional charge.*
Even after those first 30 days, our support doesn't end. We're always happy to evaluate healed and healing piercings, provide troubleshooting, recommend downsizing when appropriate, and help you achieve the healthiest possible result.
*Guarantee applies to piercings performed by Graveside Tattoo & Piercing and is subject to evaluation by your piercer.

piercing aftercare
General Piercing Aftercare
Our aftercare recommendations are base on current professional body piercing best practices and the experience of industry professionals.
If you ever have questions or concerns during the healing process, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'd much rather answer a question than have you worry unnecessarily. If you believe you're experiencing a serious medical issue, please seek evaluation from a healthcare professional.
Leave Your Jewelry Alone
Avoid touching, twisting, rotating, or removing your jewelry whenever possible. The less unnecessary contact your piercing experiences, the better.
Your starter jewelry is intentionally longer to accommodate the initial swelling that occurs during healing. Once the swelling has completely resolved, schedule a downsizing appointment so we can fit jewelry that's appropriate for long-term healing and comfort.
Protect Your Piercing
Avoid unnecessary contact with your piercing whenever possible. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Makeup and cosmetics
-
Swimming (pools, lakes, hot tubs, rivers, etc.)
-
Touching with unwashed hands
-
Pets
-
Tight or snag-prone clothing
-
Hats, helmets, and headwear
-
Face masks or anything that may place pressure on the piercing
Cleaning
Clean new piercings 2–3 times daily using sterile saline and the recommended aftercare methods noted here.
Avoid over-cleaning, as excessive cleaning can dry out the tissue and contribute to irritation.
Face & Body Piercings
We recommend cleaning face and body piercings with a sterile saline wound wash, such as NeilMed Piercing Aftercare or SteriWash.
Do not clean directly with soaps, shampoos, body washes, alcohol, peroxide, ointments, or harsh antiseptics directly on the piercing, as these products may delay healing or cause irritation.
Before cleaning your piercing:
-
Wash your hands thoroughly.
-
Saturate sterile gauze, a folded tissue, or a cotton swab with sterile saline or warm water.
-
Gently soften and remove any dried discharge around the jewelry.
-
Rinse the area if necessary and gently pat dry with clean gauze or disposable tissue.
Warm water can also be used to gently remove dried discharge or debris.
Oral Piercings
Oral piercings include any piercing located partially or completely inside the mouth.
We recommend using an alcohol-free mouthwash diluted 50/50 with distilled or bottled water during the initial healing period.
Avoid
During healing, try to avoid:
-
Excessive touching of the jewelry
-
Kissing or oral sexual contact
-
Alcohol
-
Spicy or acidic foods (if they cause irritation)
-
Nail biting
-
Chewing gum
-
Chewing on pens or other objects
-
Anything that may introduce bacteria or unnecessary trauma to the piercing
Reduce Swelling
Drinking cool water, gently sucking on ice chips, and rinsing with cool water after eating can help minimize swelling while reducing the need for excessive mouthwash use.
